Linen under-dress fitted on the top of the trunk with waist-seam. The lower part of the dress has pleats at the waist-seam. It has short sleeves and is tied on both sides. This type of dress is illustrated for example on the Rogier van der Weyden’s paintings.

A simple cotte is the base of women's dress put on the underwear. Usually it has a working function. It was worn at home and at work, it was usually well-fitted to the trunk, it can have long or short sleeves.
